Big Game Hunting - Botswana

LOCATION: The concession is situated in northern Botswana on the western edge of the Okavango Delta.

THE CONCESSION: The hunting area is a vast unspoilt wilderness covering some 346000 hectares, which is not fenced. It is government-owned and leased on a long-term basis to one outfitter.

TERRAIN & VEGETATION: Typical northern Kalahari sand terrain with Mopani and acacia woodland mixed with grassland. WEATHER: The best time to hunt here are the months of April, May and June when the days are sunny and warm with evening temperatures dropping sharply. From Sept to April it is extremely hot with temperatures over 40 C. The rainy season begins in late November and lasts until March.

BOTSWANA HUNTING RATES &TROPHY PRICES

Minimum hunt duration: 14 days

1x1 US$1600 per hunter per day and applicable Government Licence Fees per chosen quarry species + trophy fees

Please note the following information:
Government licence fees are payable prior to the start of the hunt. This requires you to decide exactly which species you would like to hunt. You do not receive a refund of this licence fee should you be unsuccessful in hunting a specified quarry species. Obviously you would not pay a trophy fee in this case.

NUMBER OF CAMPS ON CONCESSION: 1 main hunting camp and 1 fly camp.

ACCOMMODATION
The camp can accommodate 8 persons in comfortable traditional safari tents, fully staffed with waiters and tent attendants. Each tent has 2 single beds, en suite shower and WC facilities, hot and cold running water, and a 12-volt solar power supply. The tent is fully insect proof with added insect repellent sprays and coils. There is an electricity generator so items can be re-charged. A daily laundry service is available. The fly camp has chemical WCs and bucket showers.

MEALS
Full board of breakfast, lunch and 3-course dinner. Packed lunches are provided for a full day out hunting.

ALCOHOL
Moderate consumption of alcoholic beverages is included in price.

CAMP EXCLUSIVITY
You and your party will have the camp and hunting area exclusively to your self.

AIRPORT TRANSFERS
The concession is about 1 ½ hour’s drive from Maun Airport and this collection service is included in the safari rate. There is an Air Botswana service direct from Johannesburg to Maun on Tues, Thurs, Sat & Sun. SAA flies daily only to Gaborone from JIA, necessitating a further flight from Gaborone to Maun.

DURATION OF HUNT
You will get the full 14 days hunting or whatever length of time you book for. There are no hunting days lost due to travel and you may hunt on Sundays.

HUNTING VEHICLE
You will be provided with a fully equipped 4x4 hunting vehicle, which has radio contact with base camp at all, times. This is included in your safari costs.

TYPE OF HUNTING
The hunting is conducted always to the principles of fair chase. Usually game is spotted from the vehicle and then stalked on foot. There is no shooting from the vehicle. Blinds may be used if bow hunting or still hunting certain species. Your Professional Hunter and tracker(s) will accompany you at all times while hunting.

NON-HUNTING ACTIVITIES
There are excursions available including walking safaris and game drives for photography and game viewing. There are trips to Moremi Game Reserve and the Okavango Delta. Game bird hunting and fishing can also be done.

THE HUNTING SEASON

Botswana short Buffalo Hunts 7 or 10 days

1x1 US$1500 per day+ buffalo licence fee US$1000 + buffalo trophy fee US$1800

Other species of plains game may be hunted for the listed licence and trophy fees. An accurate list of your required species will be needed at the time of booking to purchase the licences prior to the start of the safari.

Airport Transfers

All road transfers from airports to camp return are included in the price.

Weapons required

Scope mounted rifles in the .270 to.300 calibre range are recommended. We have a range of estate rifles for your use, but you may bring your own weapons if you prefer, which is not a complicated situation. Temporary import/export permits are issued at Johannesburg International airport on arrival. Firearms must be transported in a locked hard case Certificates/licences (showing the firearms serial number) and any supporting documentation will be required at departure as well.
